How This Calculator Works
Calculation method: Each month, interest is calculated by dividing your APR by 12 and applying that monthly rate to the remaining balance. Your monthly payment first covers the interest, and the remainder reduces your principal balance. This process repeats until the balance reaches zero.
Assumptions: These estimates assume a fixed APR, fixed monthly payments, no new purchases, and no additional fees (such as late fees or annual fees). Your actual credit card may use a daily balance method to compute interest, which can produce slightly different results. Real payoff times and interest costs may vary.
Not a guarantee: This calculator provides estimates for educational purposes only. It does not predict your credit score, guarantee specific savings, or constitute financial advice. For a precise payoff plan, check your card statement or contact your card issuer.
Important Notes
- 0% APR: If your card has a 0% promotional APR, the entire monthly payment goes toward principal. The calculator handles this automatically.
- 0% balance: If your balance is zero, the calculator shows zero months and zero interest.
- Insufficient payment: If your payment does not cover the monthly interest, a warning appears — the balance would grow rather than shrink at that payment level.
- Privacy: All calculations happen in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, stored, or collected.
