CredNavid Review

The Discover it Secured is a secured credit card that combines credit building with cash back rewards. The card requires a refundable security deposit but charges no annual fee.

Why Secured Cards Exist

Secured cards require a refundable security deposit. For the Discover it Secured, the required deposit is $49, $99, or $200 based on creditworthiness, subject to issuer terms and eligibility, and unlocks a credit line starting at $200. This deposit protects the issuer, making approval possible even for those with no credit history. Discover reports the account to the three major credit bureaus.

Rewards and Cashback Match

The Discover it Secured earns 5% cash back on eligible purchases in rotating quarterly categories (up to the quarterly maximum, when activated) and 1% cash back on all other purchases. New cardmembers also receive an unlimited dollar-for-dollar Cashback Match on all cash back earned during the first year, subject to issuer terms.

The Graduation Path

Discover may review eligible accounts for an upgrade to an unsecured card and return of the security deposit according to its current terms. This does not require you to apply separately. Refer to Discover's current terms for details on the upgrade review process.

Bottom Line

A compelling secured card option for those building credit from scratch. Terms and offers may change. Verify current details directly with the issuer before applying.
